1. ClimaxCorner.Com is part of what I call "the new wave of video sites", that specialize in providing their members with high quality downloadable videos. Why did you decide to choose this path, instead of the old classic paysite scheme?

For us the decision was obvious, if you build a good site and charge a reasonable price then you will make customers happy. Happy customers will continue their membership month after month. It’s just that simple.

Our goal is to have people think of Climax Corner like cable TV. No one subscribes to cable, tries to Tivo everything in the first month and then cancels. The reason is there is constantly an array of new programming that keeps people entertained and coming back for more. By keeping our prices low, adding 15 new DVDs per month and constantly innovating with new features we hope to measure our customer retention rate in years, not months.


2. Your site is one of the cheapest out there, many other sites charge 3 times as much and deliver just a fraction of what your site does. What was the reason for you to set such a low price? Do you plan to hold the price that low, or is it just some kind of temporary promotion?

It’s not a promotion. The price of Climax Corner is $10 and will stay that way as long as our costs don’t unexpectedly rise.

What most people outside the industry don’t realize is that the price of a porn site is almost totally driven by how much of a bounty a content site will pay a webmaster for referring a customer. The industry is totally focused on driving traffic, not delivering value to customers. It’s not uncommon for a content site to pay $40 or $50 for a user. Obviously paying webmasters high one-time referral fees forces content sites to raise their prices, tempts them to resort to questionable practices in order to further monetize their users (e.g. selling e-mail address, cross sales, endless pop-ups, high monthly rebilling rates, etc.) and in general gives users a fairly low value for their dollar. These sorts of tactics are very short sighted and will eventually drive customers away from the internet.

We are attempting to buck the system by keeping prices low, not harvesting e-mail addresses and keeping our site pop-up free. We want our users to have the best on-line porn experience possible. Climax Corner pays webmaster a recurring monthly payment, not a high one-time referral fee. However, the end result is still positive because users continue their membership month after month and webmasters can make a substantial amount of money. This creates a situation where both customers and webmasters get a good deal.


3. Right now, you have already a nice amount of production studios covered. But what are the plans for the future, do you plan to add work from more studios or just stick to those you already work with?

Licensing content from other studios is our top priority right now. At the AVN conference earlier this year we talked with an array of studios about potential deals. Since then we’ve been working to reach an agreement that will work well for both parties, as well as provide lots of new and exciting content for our customers.

4. Can you tell us some more information about the team behind ClimaxCorner.Com?

Two guys from mainstream industry founded the company in 2002 with the vision of building the best video site on the web. One of the founders was a manager at Apple and Sony and now oversees business development and marketing. Our other founder is a computer science major from Harvard University and worked for Industrial Light & Magic, the graphics company behind Jurassic Park and Star Wars. He manages all of the technical aspects of the site. The great part about being in Silicon Valley is that we’ve been able to leverage mainstream talent to help build the most feature rich porn site on the web.
